2 Caraguata Fibre
Very long, soft, silky leaf fibre of good strength, obtamed from the Bromelia plant in Paraguay, used for ropes. The plant grows better wild than cultivated, and has many thorns, making it difficult to gather. It grows everywhere, and after the plant is cut down, new shoots spring up from the roots. -
3 Ceiba Fibre (Or Cotton)

4 Sword Sedge Fibre
A strong leaf arid stem fibre of the Lepidosperma Gladiata in Australia. Used for lines and baskets. The stems and leaves are cut down and bleached by exposure to the atmosphere. -
5 Hampshire Down Wool
A wool somewhat similar to South Down, but has greater length and is perhaps of coarser staple. An average weight of fleece is about 51/2-lb. The wool spins to about 50's to 56's. 6 Pulu Fibre
A variety of vegetable down and is the hair obtained from the stems of fern trees, especially the Cibotium Glaucum of the Hawaiian Islands. The fibres are lustrous, soft, of a golden brown colour and not strong. Chiefly used for stuffing. -
7 South Down Wool
This is the most valuable of the short staple 3-in. wools, and has a short regular fine fibre with a high spinning quality. Spins about 60's. The average weight of a fleece is about 41/2-lb. It is largely used for hosiery and flannels. The sheep were originally bred in the south-east of England (Sussex) but now are spread all over England. -
8 Suffolk Down
This sheep is one of the short-wool classes. Its black face is a striking characteristic. The fleece, which averages about 5-lb., consists of wool of good quality and fine fibre which is largely used in the hosiery trade. -
